Hello there! We are a German/ American couple who first met each other in Tokyo in 2009 and were married in New Jersey in April 2010. Following the cataclysmic events of March 11, 2011 we were deeply burdened with a desire to go and help the people of Tohoku. Since we’d both lived in Japan for ten years total between the two of us and knew Japanese well (especially my multilingual husband!) we thought that the least we could do would be translators for the volunteers. However, we got an incredible offer to work full-time with children instead with World Vision. We traveled from Germany to Minami-sanriku as full-time volunteers for about a month. It was an unforgettable experience, and we felt a strong desire to work in Tohoku longer term. Our German mission was very excited about the idea, and we are the very first missionaries in the history of our mission to work outside of Aichi prefecture. We are currently living in Ishinomaki and partnering with wonderful team of missionaries from the Evangelical Free Church of America (Reach Global).
